The Seerden Law Firm, PLLC - Maximizing Results for Your Future

In April 2010, an explosion occurred on the Deepwater Horizon, a massive oil rig owned by Transocean Ltd., in Houston and leased to BP PLC. The accident took place as the rig was drilling about 52 miles southeast of Venice, La., in 5,000 feet of water. Most of the 126-member crew escaped from the burning oil rig but at least seven suffered critical injuries and early reports indicated 11 crew members were missing.

Maritime workers including offshore workers who work on jack-up rigs, barges, drill ships, crew boats or other movable vessels are covered by the Jones Act. The federal law recognizes the dangerous work conditions that maritime workers face offshore and allows workers and their families to bring legal actions based on claims of negligence and to recover damages for injuries.

If you have been injured in an oil rig or other maritime accident, our goal is ensure you get the compensation and benefits you deserve.

Updated February 10, 2010

More information has been released on the massive Toyota Recall.

Now included in this recall are 437,000 Prius hybrid models for brake problems. The issue is with the car's anti-lock brake systems, according to some drivers "experiencing an inconsistent brake feel or the steady application of brakes on rough or slick road surfaces". The problem has been blamed for several accidents, but no deaths as of this update.

Consumer Alert – Toyota Recalls

Toyota has recently recalled 2.3 million vehicles to repair a gas pedal mechanism issue that could possibly cause the vehicle’s pedal to stick, forcing involuntary acceleration.  This recent recall follows a November announcement in which Toyota recalled 4.2 million cars over concerns that the improper length of the floor mats have shown an inclination to cause the accelerator to stick to the floor in some Toyota models as well.

The uncontrolled acceleration of a vehicle can be extremely dangerous.  These issues have been cited as the cause of several automobile accidents involving Toyotas, including at least one in which four people were killed.

If you or someone you know have been involved in an accident that you suspect was caused by a defective Toyota gas pedal or faulty floor mats, The Seerden Law Firm may be able to assist you.  We have extensive experience handling personal injury cases.  To discuss if you are eligible for a Toyota recall lawsuit, please contact The Seerden Law Firm and we will gladly answer any questions you may have in regard to these recalls.

KHOU in Houston has uncovered internal memos showing that Texas Windstorm has instructed insurance adjusters and staff to deny claims involving shingles that no longer protect your roof in the wake of Ike and Dolly. This means that thousands of homeowners could be left with faulty roofs which could lead to further damage. The Houston Chronicle is also reporting that the Texas Department of Insurance is investigating.

Consumers should stop using Zicam nasal gel and related products because they can destroy or severely damage your sense of smell, federal health regulators said earlier this week.  The warning was based on complaints received by the FDA from people and their doctors stating that following use of the products people suffered a condition called “ansomnia,” which is a loss of the sense of smell.

Even after this FDA warning, the maker of Zicam have refused to recall the drug.  Nevertheless, before Zicam markets their drug again, they will have to gain FDA approval.

Hopefully the makers of Zicam recall their product and find a way to issue it again in a safe form.

If you or someone you know has suffered a loss of the sense of smell from taking Zicam, you may be entitled to monetary damages.  Call us for a free consultation at 713.526.6700 or toll free at 866.483.9529.
